Welcome to JavaWorld's new section dedicated to server-side Java computing, presented by the software gurus at the MageLang Institute's jGuru.com. In a joint venture designed to strengthen the Java developer community and assist developers in applying server-side Java technology, JavaWorld and jGuru will present in-depth technical content in both article format and new online forums.
Starting with this month's issue of JavaWorld, you'll find several articles each month on server-side Java computing. The articles will be part of an advanced-topic series, like this month's "Create forward-compatible beans in EJB, Part 1" by Richard Monson-Haefel, author of Enterprise JavaBeans (O'Reilly and Associates, 1999). You'll also get how-to content, like "Understanding JavaServer Pages Model 2 architecture" by Govind Seshadri, author of Enterprise Java Computing -- Applications and Architecture (Cambridge University Press, 1999). And because these experts are known for their strong opinions, future articles in the series will include opinion pieces on important server-side Java topics.
JavaWorld and jGuru together plan to present many new programs. One of the first initiatives will be a live Web seminar featuring Richard, Govind, and myself, the authors of this month's articles. The event will be held on Thursday, December 9, at 6:00 p.m. PST; visit the Resources section below for further information on how can take part. You'll be able to participate in real time by telephone and Internet connection as we discuss hot server-side Java technology topics. You'll also be able to interact with us and get your server-side Java questions answered.
Another part of the JavaWorld-jGuru joint venture involves the JavaWorld Bookstore, an online technical bookstore produced by Fatbrain. The bookstore will feature reviews and book recommendations from the jGuru staff and the JavaWorld editors. You'll be able to participate in a monthly book club, join directed discussions on featured books, and attend live online events with authors.
A new JavaWorld newsletter, dedicated to server-side Java technologies and written by the gurus of jGuru, will be also starting soon. We will offer tips and tricks on server-side computing and provide an open question-and-answer forum. Be sure to watch for more details about this.
So, jump right into this month's features and stay tuned for more next month. And, most importantly, let us know what you think and what you would like to see in this new section.
