Issue with apache XML Serializer

Hi Everyone,
I am having some issues with XML serializer while having control characters in the String.
The control characters are getting converted to character reference in apache XML serializer.
Could anyone please help me to disable the control characters getting converted to character reference?
or Do we have any method in apache XML serializer1.0 to supress/remove these control characters?
