Is there a perferred method for nesting JDialogs?

What is the preferred method for nesting dialogs in java. For instance, I would like to have a main application (frame) create a modal dialog from a menu item. From this new dialog another modal dialog can be created. Are there any issues with EDT? Anything other issues that I should be aware of?
