How to implement whiteboard kind of component

Hello,
I want to develop a component like a whiteboard where in user can paste images or write text and save it. The next time user requests the whiteboard, he can see contents (images/ text) added to the whitebaord so far and can continue to add more contents to it.
Can anyone suggest me how to achieve this. Is there any GUI component already available in Swing/ YUI/ GWT which can accept both text and image from the user?
Or is there any opensource tool which could suite this requirement?
