Reading strings from java game

Tags:

Hello,

I hope somebody can help me here. There is a game I play regularly, It's called tanks. It's 2D. Here is a youtube video of it in action. You can see the status area just below the canvas.

The problem is the game doesn't have sound. So I was thinking I could implement sound like this. I would write a program which could read from the status area where people talk, and game events are shown. For example, when a tank is destroyed - it says [user has been destroyed] in the text area (but it doesn't seem to be a text area) Then I can play a sound to match the event. It's a great idea that I wish I could make.

How do I extract the text from the applet status area?

thanks in advance.
