Hidden Form fields-Alternatives

Hi, It's been established that Hidden form fields are insecure to use in web applications.
Now my question is what all are the alternatives do we have before if we want to avoid (eliminate) the usage of hidden form fields.

For example one have typical we application where user searches the employee and gets the tabular result with one Action column where number of option will be provided like EDIT/DELETE/VIEW.

Now in order to open edit one have to pull that record from the database and open the editable form for the user.

Hello,

Today we suddenly had to deal with the below error:
"javax.servlet.ServletException: TransactionServlet.doGet: Failed checking db session: javax.servlet.ServletException: java.sql.SQLException: ORA-00020: maximum number of processes (500) exceeded"

After a short discussion with the DBA team it seems the application server where our application is running on was using about 350 of the available (500) connections! The rest of the connections was used by other apps. It seems that of those 350 database connection at about 120 had an idle time of >= 1 day.

Calling data in a dropdown list

Hi,
I need help with a library s/w. Say I add some authors one by one in one form

In another form I want to add books by each author. So how do I get the author list in a drop down?

And I want to set the status of the books – if they r available, booked by someone or issued. So how can I choose the status from a drop down.

Could some of the you give me the logic for this?

Hello All,

I want to display a list of strings(Hibernate resultset) in jsp
The following code didn't work

In java

Session session1 = HibernateUtil.getSessionFactory().getCurrentSession();
session1.beginTransaction();

Query queryResult = session1.createQuery("from Avd");
req.getSession().setAttribute("queryResult",queryResult);

In Jsp

Help needed in Excel download

Hi all,

Am trying to download an excel kept in the server by java servlet. on click of download button, download dialog box appears and on clicking on save the file gets downloaded and saved successfully. Everything in this is perfect. But on click of open button i want my excel to be opened in separate excel instead of opening the excel as embedded in the browser itself. Any guidelines would help me a lot.. here is the code.. am passing the file name from jsp and getting the name in this servlet.

Migrate legacy swing to web

I'm looking at a legacy swing GUI system with around a hundred windows and dialogs.  User wants to view it on the web through a browser. 
Possible approaches I have thought of:

1) Use a commercial swing-like framework that is web-enabled.

2) Manually convert every Frame to an applet.

3) Tell the user to start over with a new system designed to be web-enabled from the ground up. J2EE compliance at the same time would be a bonus. 
Thoughts? Have I missed something easy and obvious?

How to display success message on JSP

Hello All,
Could somebody help me with displaying a success message on jsp. I have a page which has to edit two fields and store it in the database. After updating the fields I want to mention the "update success" message on the same filed.

I learnt that I have to use Action Messages for this purpose. But I do not know exactly where I've to make changes in the code.

I have three files with me

update_company_profile.jsp

update_company_profile_form.jsp (this has the getter and the setter methods)

Problem: nothing works in jsp after downloading Excel.

I have a "search.jsp" with a commandButton to generate excel. "Report.jsp" opens up in a new window when i click on this button by running below mentioned javascript. I can download Excel successfully by clicking on Download Excel link in report,jsp. Problem is, once i close this new window, I am unable to perform any other action in "search.jsp" even if i do not perform download. If i click on any other button or link "search.jsp", it replaces whole jsp with the Downlaod Excel link. and nothing happens after that . i need to close the seesion and start all over again from login page.

I have a rather complex bunch of Java code that comes from an app I wrote years ago that I'd love to reuse in a Web app I'm developing. Specifically, I'd like to  be able to open a JFrame from a Web page, say, via a link or a button. Is this possible? TIA!

Spring Mvc 404 error

Hi:
I took a course on Spring 2.56 from Interface21 and the labs I got get it to work during the training.
But when I tried it at home it doesn't work.

I go to the following url and it's find.

http://localhost:8080/accounts/
It display "This is my JSP page. " This is from the default index.jsp page.

When I tried the url as suggested in the lab "http://localhost:8080/accounts/accountSummary.htm"
It gives me a 404 error.
Note, the Tomcat 6 console didnot show any errors meaning it didn't invoke the code for the url.

I am using Myeclipse 8 on Tomcat6.

Hi All:
I am new to displaytag and Maven. I download the displaytag-examples from the url "http://sourceforge.net/projects/displaytag/files/" it is part of the "displaytag-1.2-src.zip"

I am using Eclipse 3.5 and Weblogic 11g.

I got all of the artifacts download. I was able to do "Mavern Install" and "Mavern Package" successfully on the project
