Related tool - search classes across jar files

A little plug for a related tool. Find the Jar Browser
utility at: jarbrowser.sourceforge.net
it lets you scan a whole directory tree of jars, and search
for classes within those jars (or within the current
CLASSPATH). You can also decompile .class files if you
have the Jad program.

Re: Related tool - search classes across jar files

Potentially interesting, but I remember everyone writing such tools for as long as I remember coding in Java. Anybody relying on scanning a "classpath" misses two points:

(a) content in jar/zip archives on disk may or may not be related to classes that actually get loaded in a JVM

(b) there is no such a thing as a well defined "classpath" in Java anymore. That may have been true for Java 1.0 and 1.1 but these days of several classloaders operating in any JVM, what is it? Every classloader has it own classpath, its own delegation parent, and its own delegation/loading/caching strategy.

Re: Related tool - search classes across jar files

Another little plug for another related tool.
Scans and indexes jars very quickly, in a similar fashion to JarBrowser.

Allows you to search for any class name and will tell you the Jar file the selected class is in, as well as the location of the jar file on your hard drive. Yada yada
