Toolbox stuff

What the author describes is a common practise and should be in every Java programmer's toolbox.

But, if java.io.File is evil how am I supposed to store user customizable properties? A Swing application that remembers window positions between executions comes first to my mind.

Figure out how to do that in a platform independent way and write another article.

Re: storing user customizable properties. Hasn't J2SDK 1.4 introduced a specifal API just for this (java.util.prefs)?

I forgot to login for the above post, but it was from me (Vladimir). I might write another article about java.util.prefs indeed, seeing that several readers asked essentially the same question.
