I'll take the counterpoint with a couple of the assertions in this article:

1. Java's maturity is an advantage not a dis-advantage. The whole dev environment and all the apps you are maintaining don't have the rug pulled out from under them every marketing cycle.

2. Ask any user if performance matters. After releasing an app it's the number one change request. Java, and the architecture's it's inhabiting, have addressed these issues through the app architecture ( mostly by minimizing external calls ) and the JVM itself is faster now.

3. The fact that there are now 4th gen tools for Java means more adoption by organizations, not less. These tools mean run-of-the-mill problems can be solved with quickly slapped together apps. These sorts of requirements were going to MS Access developers and cold-fusion devs, now they can be done with Java. Great. Maybe those sorts of developers will now adopt java since there's a comparable tool set. I don't see a convincing argument that this will canabalize the demand for existing Java developers.

Is it really necessary to write an article when one has absolutely nothing to say.
I think this article adds no value at all.
