You give the impression that Hibernate does not allow mapping directly with SQL, or that you can't use SQL directly. Both of these are untrue. Although implicit generation of SQL is the default, you're perfectly welcome to specify the exact SQL to map to each attribute. In addition, queries using raw SQL are also allowed.

A couple points about Hibernate:
Hibernate also allows use of procedures, it is a little awkward though.
It is not that easy to port to the other database, especially when you have some specific datatypes like sysadte, systimestamp etc.
