It have been much said about if SOA is about old ideas with a new name.
I wonder in this discussion if actual innovation here is that XML as a tool that intends MODELING, PARAMETRIZING AND STANDARDIZING business. For the first time, IMHO, business and technology walk together. For me, these are the news and not maybe the messaging systems or interfaces decoupling and related infraestructure artifacts.
