Getting around JSF: The role of JSP

Mr. Mann,
I've been trying to understand the need for the <f:subview> tag in dynamically included pages. From what I can tell, all the the <f:subview> tag does is create a private namespace for the UIComponents on that included JSP page.
So, I'm wondering if the more precise rule is: "You MUST enclose your dynamically conditionally[\i] included JSPs with <f:subview>." ?
Or am I missing something more subtle?
Thanks!
