This looks much more complicated than Spring. Spring provides so much more in addition to everything EJB 3 provides - and Spring is here today, there isn't a production release of EJB 3 today.
What am I missing?

EJB 3 is a standard, Spring is not. I disagree with the complexity opinion, I think Spring is more complicated than this. I do agree that Spring is avaialable now and that it has more features.
