Wizard API updated!
Tim Boudreau has released a new version of the Swing Wizard library (version 0.997) that fixes the WizardException bug reported in JavaWorld's recent Open Source Java Project profile. The article's examples have been reworked to test out the new, improved WizardException. Thanks, Tim, for this helpful fix!

February 7 — FMXplus is a new monitoring tool from Dirig Software that identifies performance issues in distributed Web applications. The tool features a user-controlled instrumentation capability for providing more detailed performance monitoring of Java application components.

February 7 — PointBase 4.5, a suite of Java embedded database and synchronization products, is now available. Version 4.5 features additional stability and scalability benefits for Java application developers. The suite includes PointBase Embedded 4.5, PointBase Micro 4.5, and PointBase UniSync 4.5.

INDEXHEAD: Sun announces enterprise platform enhancements

February 7 — Sun Microsystems plans to include support for Basic Profile in J2EE (Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition) 1.4. Basic Profile is a specification proposed by the Web Services Interoperability Organization (WS-I) to ensure that Web services component technologies work together. J2EE 1.4 is expected to be available in the summer.

February 7 — BEA Systems has added two new editions to its Java application server line: BEA WebLogic Express and BEA WebLogic Server, Workgroup Edition. The two product offerings were specifically designed for the departmental-level budget and application needs. BEA WebLogic Express is used for building and running JavaServer Pages (JSP) and Java servlets, and is targeted at Web applications. BEA WebLogic Server, Workgroup Edition gives departments of up to twenty end-users the complete set of features found in BEA WebLogic Server.
