TogetherSoft acquires WebGain Studio

August 16 — TogetherSoft will assume full support of all WebGain Studio products, which include the VisualCafé Java IDE, StructureBuilder, Business Designer, and Quality Analyzer. The company will also offer WebGain customers the opportunity to migrate to TogetherSoft's application development environment.

Whizlabs releases test simulator

August 16 — The SCEA@Whiz (Sun Certified Enterprise Architect) Certification Test Simulator from Whizlabs is now available as a trial version. It features six mock tests, revision tips, performance evaluations, and technical support.

Borland adds unit-testing tool to IDE

August 16 — Parasoft will integrate Jtest, its automated unit-testing tool for Java, with Borland Software's Java IDE, JBuilder 7.0. Jtest automates testing practices such as white-box, black-box, and regression testing and performs static analysis to enforce coding standards.

Metrowerks opens new development center

August 16 — A Metrowerks Wireless Development Center has opened in Austin, Texas. These centers offer developers an opportunity to test their applications on a live wireless network and on varying devices. The Austin center includes GPRS (General Packet Radio Service), GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications), and CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) networks with connectivity to the Internet and back office servers.

Softera integrates modeling tool with JBuilder

August 16 — Borland's JBuilder 7 companion CD will now include an evaluation version of Softer's SoftModeler Enterprise Edition. This tool offers UML modeling for Java, J2EE (Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition), and EJB (Enterprise JavaBean) development.

August 16 — Written in Java, The 18minutes graphical shell allows users to invoke batch commands. A tool invoked with 18minutes opens a dialog box, substitutes the entered values, and then executes.

Websina enhances bug-tracking system

August 16 — Websina has added support for servlets and J2EE (Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition) containers to Bugzeo, its Web-based bug-tracking system. Version 1.4.1 supports Tomcat, JBoss, WebLogic, WebSphere, Oracle 9iAS, Orion Server, JRun, and Resin.

Manning publishes Ant development book

Advanced Systems enhances conversion tool

August 9 — Advanced Systems Concepts has released version 2.0 of its RIO (Rpg Into Objects) tool. RIO is a conversion tool for the AS/400 or iSeries that automatically converts RPG into C++ programs or Java classes. Version 2 uses IBM's Web Facing tool to create JavaServer Pages (JSPs) in place of the display files.
