PrintWeaver leverages Java printing mechanism

December 6 — NextWave Systems has released PrintWeaver 3.1, a Java printing solution that extends the current J2SE (Java 2 Platform, Standard Edition) 1.4 print mechanism. The tool prints down and across any number of pages, automatically adjusts to any paper size, allows batch printing, row and column totals, report breaks, and page numbering, and more.

Starlasoft updates JLAN Server

December 6 — JLAN Server is a Java Windows networking file server from Starlasoft. The server allows shared filesystems to be mapped to a database or other repositories and devices. Version 2.0 features XML-based configuration, and support for large files, Unicode, and SMB (Server Message Block).

Thuraya phones receive J2ME boost

December 6 — Through a license with Insignia Solutions, Hughes Network Systems will incorporate Java into its Thuraya mobile satellite/GSM (Global System for Mobile Communication) handheld phones. With Insignia's Mobile Foundation Java-enabling software platform, HNS phones will be able to download and run J2ME (Java 2 Platform, Micro Edition) mobile services.

New JSP tag library now available

December 6 — The Devsphere XML Tag Library is a free open source JSP (JavaServer Pages) tag library that provides XML output and XML processing features complementary to JSTL (JSP Standard Tag Library). The library is based on JSP 1.2, JSTL 1.0, JAXP (Java API for XML Processing) 1.1, SAX (Simple API for XML) 2.0, and DOM (Document Object Model) Level 2.

abaXX Technology announces support for JBoss

December 6 — abaXX Technology now supports the JBoss J2EE (Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition) application server. abaXX Technology is a European process portals provider.

Precise adds Oracle9i support

December 6 — Precise Software Solutions has announced Precise/Indepth for J2EE Version 6.0, with support for J2EE (Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition) applications running on the Oracle9i Application Server. The tool correlates distributed application performance of multiple JVMs across logical and physical barriers.

December 6 — Ozibug is a Java servlet-implemented Web-based bug tracking system from Tortuga Technologies. Version 1.3.0 features the ability to customize email notifications through templates.

SPEC updates benchmark for J2EE 1.3

November 27 — The Standard Performance Evaluation Corp. (SPEC) has released SPECjAppServer2002. The updated benchmark measures the performance of Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE) 1.3 application servers connected to a database server.

Manning publishes Struts tutorial
