agentNET enables remote administration of IT systems
agentNET developed by agentGO is a wireless enterprise application that monitors the status of network systems, sends wireless alerts to system administrators and IT personnel, and allows system administrators to fix problems remotely. agentNET provides early detection of common system failures and allows for in-depth diagnosis. Part of agentGO's Naked Apps product family, agentNET is a third-generation, agent-based technology built on Java and XML. Administrators may use a mobile device to interact with the system. The product is designed to reduce development time for wireless applications.

Talarian JMS products offer dynamic delivery
Talarian has introduced the first two products of its JMS-based (Java Message Service) product family, Workbench for JMS and SmartSockets for JMS. The products are designed to deliver fast time-to-market, realtime performance, reliability, scalability, and Internet application support. The new Talarian JMS products combine Sun's JMS interface with Talarian's publish-subscribe messaging and message-queuing engines. By incorporating the two messaging paradigms together, Talarian provides a JMS-based solution for realtime delivery of large volumes of messages.
Workbench for JMS, a quick-start developer's toolkit, will be available in March 2001. SmartSockets for JMS is an enterprise infrastructure solution for application-to-application messaging; it will become available in late 2001.
2Bridge Personal Portal connects to Web services
The 2Bridge Personal Portal Server, just released from 2Bridge, provides users with the means to create a personalized command center for accessing, permissioning, publishing, and sharing Web services, documents, and rich media. The standards-based 2Bridge Personal Portal Server is written in Java and XML. The server can be incorporated as part of the federated enterprise network of peer-to-peer portal and content servers, enabling IT organizations to leverage the power of distributed network computing. The Personal Portal allows users to create an unlimited number of personalized channels, and it can authenticate from any JNDI source, including LDAP, NT-user database, or Unix permissioning system. It also features business information and services, and a multiple-device gateway.
NetSpurs Reporter for Remedy provides wireless reporting solution
NetSpurs Reporter for Remedy, a new product from Tek Tools, is a Web-based reporting solution for Remedy Action Request System. Using Java servlets and JavaServer Pages, NetSpurs Reporter for Remedy communicates with the Remedy API in XML-formatted data. NetSpurs Reporter for Remedy provides users with the ability to build custom reports and to deliver those reports on the Web through PDAs or desktop applications using HTML, WML, or CSV. NetSpurs Reporter for Remedy features grouping, sorting, arithmetic functions, and a scheduler that automatically generates reports at user-defined intervals. Users can build reports from their ARS data, and tailor the design and data content of the report. Reports can be delivered via the Web and wireless devices.

Vonetix 2.1 enables automated telephone access to information and transactions
Gold Systems has released Vonetix 2.1, a new product that provides an infrastructure for integrating speech recognition, interactive voice response, and wireless Web technologies with existing customer communication interfaces. Using a Java/XML/XHTML interface, Vonetix provides access to Web-based content through the telephone and wireless devices. That technology eliminates the need to create a backend infrastructure for automated telephone access. It's designed to provide instant access to information and transactions, and to help developers deploy voice applications faster and cost effectively. Users can employ Vonetix 2.1 to enhance customer service initiatives with voice recognition and automated response applications. Vonetix 2.1 features standards-based Java architecture for an open, scalable development environment; it features an open API for application development, speeding the creating of speech-enabled applications; and it allows applications and platforms to work together.

VersantBridge plug-in speeds Java application development
A new plug-in, called the VersantBridge, integrates Versant's database management system with TogetherSoft's development environment. The VersantBridge implementation is designed to minimize the design, analysis, and coding cycles in Java application development. Created for users modeling Java applications with the Together Control Center, VersantBridge provides the ability to define application architecture and to automatically generate class definitions. The integration module exploits the Java interface built into the Versant enJin and Versant Developer Suite.

JCA implementation for BEA WebLogic Server 6.0 supports J2EE
WebLogic has introduced the JCA beta for BEA WebLogic Server 6.0, an open standard e-business infrastructure that supports the Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE). The JCA implementation is designed to accelerate time-to-market and to decrease costs of integrating e-business applications with existing systems and applications. Enabling new e-business applications to work with legacy applications, JCA is ideal for companies building global e-business systems that span mainframes, enterprise resource planning applications, and customer relationship management systems.

Build wireless devices with minimal wireless programming knowledge

Expanded iPlanet software line supports entry-level through high-end technologies
iPlanet has developed a new line of Web and application server software that offers four levels of functionality, from entry-level to high-end. The products are designed for use in a broad range of operating situations. The new iPlanet products include an updated version of iPlanet Web Server and three new editions of the iPlanet Application Server. The range in products allows customers to choose the platform that best suits their needs. The four tiers of functionality include:
- iPlanet Web Server 6.0 is a flexible, scalable platform for the delivery of dynamic Web content. An entry-level edition for Java technology development, version 6.0 includes the support of virtual domains and features enhanced security. The iPlanet Web Server 6.0 will be available in May 2001 for ,495 per CPU.
- iPlanet Application Server, Standard Edition 6.0, a new iPlanet Server based on the Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE), includes full support for Java Servlets and JavaServer Pages. It provides session management and monitoring capabilities for deployment of Web applications. The low-cost server is designed for enterprises that want to build highly scalable Web applications. It will become available in June 2001 at ,995 per CPU.
- iPlanet Application Server, Enterprise Edition 6.0 is a J2EE-compliant application server that provides full support for Enterprise JavaBeans architecture. Designed for customers who need to develop highly scalable transactional business logic, it includes sophisticated load-balancing, clustering, and distributed transaction functionality. Currently available, the iPlanet Application Server, Enterprise Edition is priced at 9,995 per CPU.
- iPlanet Application Server, Enterprise Pro Edition 6.0 is a high-end enterprise application server based on the J2EE framework. Designed for customers who create business applications with sophisticated workflow and integration capabilities, it includes business workflow management tools and application integration capabilities. The iPlanet Application Server, Enterprise Pro Edition 6.0 is expected to be available in March 2001 at 9,995 per CPU.
Droplets-Dynamo Bridge allows enterprises to leverage existing online apps
Using the Droplets-Dynamo Bridge, customers with ATG Dynamo can adapt Web applications for delivery with the Droplets Platform and can upgrade the user interface quality of existing Web-based applications. Minimal development is required to deliver the Web applications to users' desktops. Droplets-Dynamo Bridge allows enterprises to retain the business logic of their existing Web applications, while directing the servlet-based presentation layer to function as interactive Droplets GUIs. The Droplets GUIs create browser-independent online applications; they are component-based, persistent, and asynchronous. Users activate Droplets by double-clicking a desktop icon. Droplets support Enterprise JavaBeans servers and all application servers that support XML, COM, or CORBA interfaces.
Harmony Component Suite 1.2 extends components
Compoze Software has introduced Harmony Component Suite 1.2, a new version of its collection of domain-specific Enterprise JavaBeans components used to develop applications and foster collaboration among different technologies. New features of version 1.2 include group scheduling and task management. Group scheduling allows users to invite others to attend scheduled events. Task management allows users to assign tasks to other users and to control the flow of those tasks. The new components support iCalendar specifications.
ILOG improves JViews Component Suite's graphical and animation capabilities
The latest release of JViews Component Suite, Version 3.5, features enhancements to client support, speed, graphics, and animation capabilities. A set of pure Java components for building interactive Web-based user interfaces, JViews allows users to create visual displays that go beyond simple forms and dialogs. Version 3.5 can be deployed on the server side using the Java Servlet API, and it now supports JDK 1.1, 1.2, and 1.3. The new version provides an extensible SVG read/write mechanism that enables developers to use XML standards for exchanging vector data. Other new features include Java 2-D pattern and gradient fills for enhanced graphic objects and automatically moved objects for animation. The Graph Layout Package allows for incremental layout and customization. The Maps Package includes new projects such as Cassini, gnomonic, and orthographic; the Gantt Chart Package includes an extensible mechanism for handling large sets of scheduling data.
